The Great Buddha, 大仏, Daibutsu, is a huge bron

The Great Buddha, 大仏, Daibutsu, is a huge bronze statue of Amida Buddha. A designated National Treasure, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and one of the most famous icons of Japan, the statue sits in the Kōtoku-in, 高徳院, a Jōdo-shū Buddhist temple in the city of Kamakura in Kanagawa Prefecture. The statue is almost 800 years old, and when one enters the grounds, a sign reads, Stranger, whosoever thou art and whatsoever be thy creed, when thou enterest this sanctuary remember thou treadest upon ground hallowed by the worship of ages.
